Sedation / General Anesthesia

Sedation / General Anesthesia

Most dental procedures in children are completed using local anesthesia, however, very young, fearful or uncooperative children may also require sedation. Smile Kingdom Dental follows the administration guidelines for safe sedation endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

General anesthesia involves giving a combination of medications to cause your child to become unconscious and asleep while receiving dental care. This type of care is indicated when the child has extensive treatment needs, is extremely anxious, has special medical needs, has a language barrier or is uncooperative for necessary care.

A board-certified, Dental Anesthesiologist who specifically works with children, will care for your child during the procedure. The anesthesiologist reviews each child’s history and may refer you to the hospital or surgery center for care if your child is in a higher risk category. Any potential problems from your child’s past and current health history are identified prior to the procedure.

We offer several different sedation options including: care with nitrous oxide, in-office general anesthesia, and in-hospital general anesthesia.
